Samford Inducts Abbie Kathryn Shimer into Freshman Honor Society

2013 Apr 19

Abbie Kathryn Shimer of Fayetteville has been inducted into Samford University's chapter of Alpha Lambda Delta (ALD) freshman honor society. The society honors Samford freshmen in the top 20 percent of their class with grade point averages of 3.75 on a 4.00 system.

"I really appreciate the fact that ALD celebrates the first year of college when there are so many challenges and transitions in life," said Samford geography professor Jennifer Speights-Binet, ALD advisor. "By focusing on that first year of college, ALD is acknowledging that education is a journey, and the beginning and middle of the journey are just as important as the end."

Samford Assistant Dean of Arts and Sciences Dana Basinger also serves as an ALD advisor.

Samford University is consistently ranked in the top tier of its peer group by U.S. News & World Report.
