AGS participants are nominated by their schools on the basis of academic ability, leadership qualities, creativity and community service. Selection is also based on teacher and guidance counselor recommendations and written essays. At the end of the program, awards for outstanding male and female student were given.

Graduating students represented 28 states and seven other countries: United Kingdom, Malaysia, China, France, South Korea, Canada and Germany.

Samford University's Orlean Beeson School of Education recently held its 37th annual teacher education award ceremony to recognize the many accomplishments of the school's undergraduate teacher education students. Sixteen scholarships totaling more than $37,000 were awarded to students pursuing a career in teacher education.
